Will There Be Bus Service To Kever Rachel On The Yahrzeit?

Egged officials in Yerushalayim are signaling that unlike in past years, this year, on the yahrzeit of Rachel Imeinu, 11 Mar Cheshvan, there will be no shuttle bus service, blaming “area conditions and logistical realities”. MK (Yahadut HaTorah) Uri Maklev has sent a letter seeking an explanation for the precedent-setting decision.

Egged explains it has turned to Transportation Ministry officials in the hope of finding a solution to the logistical realities that exist today, making the shuttle service an impossibility, and it appears that Egged and the appropriate ministry officials are looking for a solution.

Egged officials have informed Maklev that the bus company has put forward a number of possible solutions, calling on the MK to use his influence with ministry officials towards achieving intended results in time for the yahrzeit.

  1. Given the security situation, why would anyone want to travel there. There are many other kevorim of big tzadikim and tzadekkeses (spelling?) that are in much safer locations so there is no need to incur the risk and divert the security forces by operating special buses. Why don’t those groups who feel the need to go there charter their own buses and provide their own security escorts?.

  2. #1, because this is not just any tzadik. This is Rachel Imainu! specifically on her yahrtzeit. If it isn’t sakanas nefashos, why aren’t they providing service… but if it is, what kind of proposal is it to do private charters?
