Eretz Yisroel: Radio Host Enlists Reward Money to Recovery Stolen Sifrei Torah

This is undoubtedly one of those ‘only in Israel’ stories. A radio host began fundraising to raise 20,000 NIS to offer as a reward for the apprehension of the thieves who stole four sifrei Torah.

On Monday night, January 30, 2012, thieves broke into the Mishkan Nissim shul in the Gilo neighborhood of the southern capital and made off with four sifrei Torah. They broke into the Aaron Kodesh to access the sifrei Torah in the shul that only opened its doors a few months ago.

Popular radio host Elad Emdi heard of the theft and decided to do his part towards recovering the scrolls. He began an on-the-air fundraising campaign to raise 20,000 NIS in reward money, offering the sum to anyone with information leading to the apprehension of the thieves. In addition, he made a passionate appeal to the thief, asking him to bring the seforim back and receive 10,000 NIS, no questions asked.
