What’s all the celebrating about? Sixty-four years ago this week, Israel’s founders took a barren, undeveloped land and through years of hard work, transformed the state into a hive of creativity and innovation, changing people’s lives around the world. We’re celebrating their vision, tenacity, and perseverance.

Pitopia was founded on a similar vision of creativity, innovation, and excellence. A step above the rest, Pitopia places unprecedented emphasis on freshness and quality, meticulous preparation, awesome salads, friendly service, healthy eating, authentic Israeli cuisine, and of course, perfect falafel balls – crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, perfectly spiced.

The salad bar offers unlimited accompaniments: red cabbage, beets, tabouli, amba (a spicy mango sauce) and sauces: tahini, cilantro tahini, garlic, hot sauce and salsa and you have the makings of a delicious and nutritious low-cost lunch – to eat in or take out.

“We offer delicious Mediterranean cuisine that’s both good for you and very reasonably priced,” says Kevin Cohnen, co-owner of the restaurant with Jackie Ho. “We are committed to using the finest and freshest ingredients, giving you extensive choices in a vibrant atmosphere and ensuring prompt, friendly service.”

MJP comments on Midtownlunch.com: “I’m quite impressed by the quality of food they’re putting out. Seriously, my opinion is that they’re head and shoulders above [the competition]. If I get the pita craving they’re going to be my first stop.”

Pitopia’s classy ambiance and glamorous Broadway Street location belie the humble beginnings of their tasty fare.

“In Israel, I discovered the most wonderful falafel served in a cafe owned by a nice Israeli couple,” Kevin says. “They gave me the recipe and then trained Jackie for two months in the art of preparing this moist and flavorful dish.”

“Tasting our fluffy pita is an adventure of its own,” Kevin continues. “It’s all made fresh hourly from white or whole wheat flour.”

RM says on Midtownlunch.com, “AMAZING, the pita is the softest thing I ever ate, it tastes like heaven and it goes perfectly with the crispy falafel! This for sure is my favorite falafel place (I’m very picky about my food)! I wouldn’t even think about going anywhere else! Thank you Pitopia!”

Nycluncher adds, “The falafel, hummus and salad had so much flavor. The Amba sauce was the best part, with the tangy flavor it’s a must try. With my last bite I realized it was the best tasting pita bread I ever had. I am definitely going back!”
