HaGaon HaRav Karelitz Shlita Steps Down from the Beis Din

HaGaon HaRav Nissim Karelitz Shlita has announced his is stepping down as av beis din and he is being replaced by his son-in-law, Rav Shriel Rosenberg, mora d’asra of the Ramat Dovid neighborhood of Bnei Brak and av beis din of Dvar Mishpat. The rav is a seasoned dayan.

According to a Chadrei Chareidim report, the rav explained to his closest confidants that he has been contemplating the move for a while and since the hospitalization of Maran Posek HaDor HaGaon HaRav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv Shlita, he has been inundated with halachic questions from around the world and as a result, he simply does not have the time to properly address his responsibilities as av beis din.

Stepping down along with him will be HaGaon Rav Yaakov Edelstein, mora d’asra of Ramat HaSharon, who was a senior dayan for a number of decades. Rav Edelstein has been waiting to step down for a number of years because of his age but refrained from doing so out of respect to Rav Karelitz.

The beis din of Rav Karelitz is the largest private beis din in Eretz Yisrael, among the most respected, handling thousands of cases annually.

  1. Wow! That Beis Din will no longer be the supreme court! Who will replace it? Who will judge the klal and be accepted like that Beis Din? Where will klal Yisroel turn? This isn’t just any story, its tremendous!

  2. the answer to the above no. 1 statement is that Hashem should send a speedy recovery to Reb elyashiv and stop the tzoras and bring mshiach

  3. uh….
they are stepping down as “av beis din” and as “senior dayan” however the bais din will continue to run, and they will both continue to serve klal yisroel but not in their previous titles.
