Parents’ Suspected Abuse Of Child Leads To Blindness

The Israeli police on Friday arrested a couple in their twenties from Givat Olga on suspicion of abusing their nine-month-old son.

According to the suspicion, as a result of the abuse, the toddler lost his sight permanently and caused him additional damages which, according to the estimates, are irreversible.

The suspicion of abuse by the parents came up after the toddler was rushed to Hillel Yafeh Hospital in Hadera. During the medical examinations, it became clear that he was suffering from internal bleeding, brain damage and various injuries to his body parts, and the hospital reported to the police. From there, the baby was transferred to the Dana Children’s Hospital at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv and is in moderate condition in the intensive care unit.

The parents, who are also suspected of neglect, were arraigned on Sunday, 8 Tammuz in the Haifa Magistrate’s Court. At this preliminary stage of the investigation, it was reported that the parents are cooperating in part. Among other things, investigators are trying to determine if the parents shook the child.

It should be noted that the parents, who moved to the neighborhood about three months ago from Rehovot, are not known to the welfare services in Hadera and from an examination of the municipality, they are also unknown among the welfare services in Rehovot.
