Israel: Security Chiefs Oppose a Military Assault Against Iran

According to a Yediot Achronot report, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz, IAF Chief Major-General Amir Eshel, Chief of Military Intelligence Major-General Aviv Kochavi, Mossad Director Tamir Fredo and ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) Director Yoram Cohen all oppose a unilateral Israeli strike against Iran at this time, referring to a unilateral Israeli action without the cooperation of the United States.

A number of other former senior officials are adamantly opposed to a unilateral Israeli strike as they indicated after leaving their posts. This includes former Mossad Director Meir Dagan, former IDF Chief Gabi Ashkenazi, and former GSS Director Yuval Diskin.

Following the recent visit of America’s National Security Council head and the current visit of Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, the Iranian nuclear program is once again in the headlines.
