Firefighters responded to an apparently false alarm on the 88th floor of the under-construction 1 World Trade Center tower Wednesday morning.

Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman said the fire report was called in by a member of the public. The civilian may have seen sparks from welding on the tower.

About 84 firefighters responded to the 7:42 a.m. incident.

No injuries were reported.
