IAF Retaliates for Rocket Attacks in the Standard Way

After eleven years of rocket attacks into southern Israel one is compelled to arrive at the conclusion that the national government simply cannot be bothered concerning itself with the residents of the Gaza Border communities, for if a single rocket landed in Tel Aviv, striking Dizengoff Center perhaps, the response would be immediate and forceful – a response that would undoubtedly lead to a regional war.

As if it is compelled to fulfill a governmental responsibility, the air force during the night “bombed Hamas weapons storage facilities in Gaza” in response to numerous rocket attacks into southern Israel over recent days. The pinpoint retaliatory strikes begs the question if we have accurate intelligence information and know the whereabouts of weapons manufacturing and storage facilities, why aren’t they neutralized ahead of time instead of saving them as a bank of targets for retaliatory missions.

By permitting the rocket fire into southern Israel, the government has delegitimized the status of the residents in those areas, and in the minds of many, they live in “occupied areas” but in fact, they live in undisputed Israel, in an areas recognized as the State of Israel by the international community, but no one can understand why sovereign nation permits rocket fire over an international border, into civilian population centers without responding appropriately. The level of frustration of southern Israeli leaders and residents is beyond words, now aware that unless a rocket chas v’sholom strikes a full bus of school children or the like, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak simply cannot be bothered, permitting the air force to fulfill its obligation by carrying out an occasional response, benefiting pilots who remain combat fit by doing so.

While students in the nation’s public schools smiled on their first day of school, for students in the Sderot area heading to school was accompanied by a Red Alert siren, compelling students and parents alike to run for their lives as the 15-second countdown began.

The attacks in recent days barely received new coverage in the media as B’chasdei Hashem there were no fatalities, injuries or damage; hence not news worthy since Kassam rocket fire into S. Israel is a regular occurrence.
