(VIDEOS AND PHOTOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

ZAKA CEO Yehuda Meshi-Zahav was attacked and injured by a lion while on safari in South Africa. He explained to Kikar Shabbos News that when he was attacked by the lioness it was the first time in his life that he felt fear.

He is quoted telling the news agency “I am in South Africa in the framework of ZAKA training and a major training exercise involving official agencies. Today, we took a break and went on safari to the jungle.”

“There is a stage where you enter the area with lions and they teach you all kinds of things – you must stand straight, you must not bend because they will attack you.”

“At one point,” recalls Meshi-Zahav, “I was walking with two lions and one of them turned around and attacked me. My yarmulke went flying, I really wanted to be careful not to fall – but I fell, and then they started hitting the lion with sticks.”

“What power, what fear, this was the first time I was ever afraid,” says Meshi-Zahav.

After the incident, Meshi Zahav was taken to a local hospital for a tetanus injection following the scratches he received.

  1. And of course the question is whether benching gomel is sufficient or if there is some special baracha for surviving such an experience…..probably better for a CR thread on “name the baracha”….
