Prescription-Drug Overdoses & Deaths Skyrocket in NYC

The NY Post reports:

New York City has a growing and fatal obsession — prescription drugs.

The number of emergency-room visits involving abuse of prescription drugs such as Xanax, Valium and Ativan has skyrocketed 111 percent from 2004 through 2010, a new city Health Department analysis has found.

That’s 6,555 emergency-room visits.

The number of overdose deaths from the anti-anxiety/sleeping pills also jumped 18 percent over five years, to 226. These cases accounted for 44 percent of all overdose deaths.

In light of the scourge, city health officials vowed to ratchet up the city’s public-awareness campaign against prescription-drug abuse.

  1. Maybe if the Department of Health spent more time making the public aware of this issue and less time making false milah accusations, these deaths could have been prevented.

  2. And does anyone know where Michael Bloomberg and his DOH stands on this issue? Our message should be. At the same time when one is busy expanding their jurisdiction and power, you will hinder on your own duties. And the same applies to the hike in accident fatalities as well as deaths due to errors in hospitals.

This results in, that not-only orthodux jews but everyone in the city is suffering from his so-called health-conscious policies
