Deri on Likud/Yisrael Beitenu Deal ‘We’ll Sit in Opposition’

Upon hearing of the agreement between Likud and Yisrael Beitenu, Shas’ Aryeh Deri stated “this is not just another agreement, but this is the creation of a new entity, Likud Beitenu”, seeking to stress the significance of the deal, which will pull Likud away from its traditional coalition partners, the chareidim, and move towards more pro-secular policies.

Deri warned of the new reality that will exist if this agreement is approved by the directorate of the parties, one that will compel chareidi parties including Shas to remain in opposition.

One must realize that such an agreement might result in Yair Lapid becoming the next minister of the interior, giving him the authority to recognize non-frum conversions for example. He would support civil marriage and other steps that would increase intermarriage in Eretz Yisrael chas v’sholom.

In the erev shabbos Hamodia calls for achdus in response to the deal, aware of the treat to Torah Jewry in Eretz Yisrael if a pro-secular coalition is established.

  1. THE TIME HAS FINALLY COME TO USE THE FOLLOWING IDEA:
SHAS / DEGEL HATORAH / RELIGIOUS ZIONISTS MUST COME TOGETHER FOR THE COMING ELECTION AND PRODUCE A UNITED FRONT EVEN IF LATER ON THEY SPLIT UP AGAIN. HERE IS THE CLASSIC CASE OF A NEED FOR ACHDUS. iT SOUNDS IMPOSSIBLE BUT IT MUST BE DONE – AND MAYBE IN THAT ZCHUS WE WILL BRING MASHIACH AS WELL! THIS IS A CASE OF HATZALAS NEFASHOS!

  2. It’s also possible that now that Likud has come out as an ultra-secular party, it will lose votes to the religious nationalist parties. It’s also possible for Hareidim to cut a deal with the left wing parties (with whom they agree on economic issues). And of course there is the possibility that as the secular parties take control, they will alienate enough frum Jews that the anti-zionist movement which doesn’t participate in elections will grow from a handful to a serious movement.

Remider: For those who fine politics to be too ridiculous and a waste of time, you can always do something constructive, like learning (but Bitul Zman is so much more fun).

  3. The policies of the charedi parties brought this on themselves by years of their conduct. Threatning to topple governments unless “their” people get enough funding that benefits no one but their little subset. Not very helpful to the general welfare of the country.

This should really come as no shock that the middle class citizens are sick and tired of it. And now the politicians have finally broken their stranglehold.
