On Thursday, March 22, Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro and FDNYs Ner Tamid Society hosted the third Passover Seder at FDNY headquarters.
This Seder demonstrates once again that we are continuing to grow as a Department and foster a deeper understanding of each other, and the many diverse cultures and backgrounds that make up the FDNY, said Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro. While this is a Jewish tradition, this particular meal is an interfaith Seder bringing together FDNY members of many different faith because all of us in the FDNY family share that one common thread, that critical mission to protect our great city.
Cantor Eric S. Freeman, Associate Director of Yeshiva Universitys Belz School of Jewish Music sang the Israeli National Anthem and special acknowledgements were delivered to Ner Tamid Society President Lieutenant Nicholas Malter and Vice President Firefighter Barton Fendelman.
Its great to see so many of our uniformed members here today thats a tribute to the Ner Tamid Society and their work, said Chief of Department James E. Leonard. When we hold these inclusive events, like todays interfaith Seder, were making sure we reach many more people than ever before.
Seder service and the benediction were delivered by FDNY Chaplain Rabbi Joseph Potasnik.
