PHOTOS: Jerusalem is Snowed In [UPDATED 08:50 IL]

08:15 IL: The weatherman was correct and the snowfall in Yerushalayim continues to accumulate, shutting the city down. At this hour many city services are down, including buses. Schools remain closed as the snowfall continues to accumulate. Forecasters indicate the snowfall may continue for another several hours.

City Hall realized the significant storm was blanketing the capital and ordered the closure of schools at about 5:00am.

Jerusalem light rail officials report that are operating and trains will be free of charge until 2:00pm Thursday, 28 Teves 5773.

The Jerusalem – Tel Aviv Highway is closed in both directions from Ben-Shemen Interchange to the capital. The Jerusalem – Modi’in Highway, Route 443, is also closed in both directions heading to and from the capital.

Other reported school closings due to snow include the Golan Heights, Beit Jon, Maalot, Merom Galil Regional Council, Upper Galil Regional Council, Tzfas, Binyamin Regional Council, Gush Etzion Regional Council, Hebron, Kiryat Arba, and Mevasseret Tzion.

08:39: There may be limited bus service in the capital on major roadways, but not entering into the neighborhoods.

Tzfas is closed down. No transportation in or out and roadways covered in snow.

08:47: Schools are closed in Dimona as well.

There are widespread road closures in the north. Motorists are advised to check with local authorities before heading out.

08:50: Accumulations in Yerushalayim reported to be 20cm (7.8 inches) in many areas.
