Gush Katif Refugees Face Yet Another Expulsion

The 165 families that make up the caravan villa site in Nitzan face eviction once again. The families were ousted from their homes in Gush Katif a number of years ago, in the 2005 Disengagement Plan.

According to the Maariv report, some of the families simply refused to pay the government rent after being uprooted from their homes and their lives while others were unable too due to the economic hardships that followed their expulsion.

Now, the residents face another government expulsion. The government has served them with eviction orders, some within 45 days while others have up to 90 days. The state explains that the residents have had ample time to rebuild themselves and start new lives, and they must now decide if they wish to buy land in the new evacuee community on the Ashkelon coast and if they wish, they can move their caravan home or build a new home on that plot of land.

Reality for many or most of these families paints a different picture however, and they explain they cannot afford to buy land and build homes for many left their source of earning a livelihood behind in Gush Katif and today, they have not succeeded in earning a steady income. Some of the families opting to buy land and build homes require additional time, for their new homes will not be ready in time to comply with the eviction order. This will result in stiff fines levied against them by the state by the government’s Tenufa Agency, responsible for dealing with the evictees.

From the state’s perspective, most families have made living arrangements and for those who opt to remain, they will have to pay rent in the Nitzan site if they wish to continue living at the current location. State officials explain that Nitzan used to house 500 families, but many have since left.

  1. and this is what the government does to loyal zionists, who proudly serve in the army — if this is what they do to friends, wait until you see what awaits the hareidim who don’t cooperate with conscription

  2. This is horrible. Let us join together and show our support for these people. But who knows howmany of us will end up like them here too with this new government of ours taking more and more from taxpayers and working people who now wants to give illegal rights on our account.

  3. Is it possible that Arik Sharon cannot rest in peace, is not accepted either by life or death, so long these families are not settled peaceful.
We find in the Torah that the earth did not wan’t to accept the one who did evil.

  4. Akuperman, your posts in general are a must read on YW. I couldn’t agree with you more on most of them.
I do hope that chareidim will fight tooth and nail against this evil decree that would destroy yiddishkeit. Secular Zionists goal is to finish the job for the Nazis and other anti-Semites around the world ys”h. Secular Zionists hate the chareidim probably even more than them.

As I said before, as long as Israeli Arabs and self-proclaimed Tel Aviv elite do not serve in the army, there’s no reason for chareidim to be the guinea pigs and and “share the burden”. It doesn’t matter what excuse the Arabs and those TA “elite” have – they don’t serve, we don’t serve. We have to stick to this.
