Modi’in Illit Ranks 61st in Arnona Tax

According to a Money Magazine report, despite being in the center of the country, Modi’in Illit ranks low, 61, regarding the cost of arnona property tax in the community.

The survey set out to determine where residents of Israel pay the highest arnona tax, listing 64 municipalities, placing the chareidi city at the end among the least expensive. The survey is based on an average 100 square meter apartment, addressing payment for a two-month period. The highest is 944 NIS in Herzliya, followed by Yerushalayim (922 NIS) and Netanya, Petach Tikvah, Haifa, Givatayim, and Bnei Brak 864 NIS.

Beit Shemesh ranks 31st (686 NIS), Ashdod 33rd (681 NIS), Elad 36th (664 NIS), Ofakim 45th (647 NIS), Betar Illit 55th (590 NIS), and Modi’in Illit 61st (546 NIS).

The rates cited are before granting any discounts to residents, which in some areas are quite commonplace.

  1. I think these are some quite telling statistics. These chareidi communities make up the difference in their arnona income by getting money from national taxes instead. They get subsidies all the time from the Knesset.

Did you know that the average income in Beitar is listed as (one of) the poorest in the entire country? There are a lot of families there who get a huge arnona discount (up to 90% off) of their already low arnona rates. The municipal income has to come from somewhere and I can tell you that it’s NOT because they give less services because I visit there all the time and family who live there love the services they get from Beitar.

As for Kiryat Sefer (aka Modi’in Illit), they don’t build parks and things for their citizens to do – that’s why the whole community moves into Modi’in’s beautiful parks every chol hamoed.

  2. Average in Yerushalayim is 922 nis. In actually I know of 100m apartments paying 1,400 nis, which means that in order to make the average, other areas in Yerushalyim must have arnona of around 600 nis. The conclusions to make are yours.
