Police/IDF Bracing for Increasing Arab Violence

As is the case with all matters addressed by the PA (Palestinian Authority), showing support for a person or ideal takes shape in the form of violence, which continues to serve as a means to an end for PA leaders past and present.

In a violent protest outside the Ofir Detention Center on Thursday 11 Adar 5773, at least three Israeli journalists were injured by rocks thrown by the at least 200 participants. The violence was explained as a showing of solidarity with terrorists imprisoned in Israel, who are continuing a hunger strike. The hunger strike of course is part of the ongoing effort to compel Israel to release the terrorists, an effort that has already enlisted the support of the UN, which warned Israel this week regarding human rights of prisoners. Apparently the UN forgot the terrorists are being fed, but they simply opt not to eat as part of their effort to gain improved conditions and in some cases, seeking a release.

IDF soldiers ultimately used teargas and other riot-control adjuncts to disperse the violence protestors who were trying to advance towards the prison.

The IDF has increased the number of soldiers operating in areas of Yehuda and Shomron as recent weeks have seen a sharp increase in firebomb and rock attacks against both civilians and security forces. Security forces are also focusing on possible violence on Friday 12 Adar following Islamic prayers on Har Habayis, adding it coincides with the anniversary of the 1994 shooting deaths of 29 Islamic worshipers in the Machpelah by Dr. Baruch Goldstein.

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) continues walking the fine line, condemning violence in the media while in actuality, supporting the violence. Abu Mazen prefers having the threat of a 3rd intifada hanging overhead as a tactic towards pressuring Israel in the international diplomatic forum towards additional concessions and to renew the negotiating process which is erroneously referred to as the ‘peace process’ when in essence, it has become a ‘unilateral concession process’ on Israel’s part.
