VIDEO: Daily News: Suspect In Williamsburg Crash Ready To Surrender – Says Thought He Was Being ‘Shot At’ So Fled

hulJulio Acevedo, the fugitive suspect in the hit-and-run that killed a Brooklyn couple and their newborn son, told the Daily News he was ready to turn himself in.

“My heart goes out to them,” Acevedo said Tuesday in a phone call arranged by a friend. “I didn’t know they died until I saw the news.”

Acevedo — whose long rap sheet includes a 1987 manslaughter conviction, plus drug and gun charges — said he was reaching out for a lawyer before surrendering.

The suspect said he was fleeing from gunshots when his car slammed into the livery cab carrying Nachman Glauber and his pregnant wife, Raizel, to the hospital after she experienced pain. Both were killed in the crash early Sunday.

The couple’s son was prematurely delivered after the fatal wreck, but died hours later.

Acevedo said he walked away from the Brooklyn wreck because he “was scared of someone shooting at me.”

“I was scared. I just got shot at,” he added.

  1. Great idea, he spent 8 years for manslaughter and now this
better he is off the earth permanently. He is willing to surrender because there is a noose around his neck and he can’t move

  2. Yitzchoky, Last time I checked the penalty for manslaughter was not the death penalty. Considering that there have unfortunately been Yidden in the same situation as Mr. Acevedo, and also considering that YWN is a public venue, I would respectfully request that we keep our emotions in check and our comments reasonable.
