NYC: Coastal Storm to Bring Strong Winds, Minor Coastal Flooding, and Snow Wednesday-Thursday


weatherA low pressure system will strengthen to the south and east lessening the storms impact to the New York City area. There is increased confidence (80%) in the forecast, which calls for 1-3 inches of wet snow Wednesday night through Thursday evening, a rain snow mix throughout the day on Thursday, and a second round of snow that may bring 1-2 inches Thursday night into Friday. Snow is not expected to accumulate on roadways but will accumulate on trees, grass, sidewalks, etc. High winds with gusts of 40-50MPH and minor to moderate coastal flooding is expected.

Thursday: High 42, low 31 degrees
Friday: High 45, low 33 degrees

TIMING
Wednesday – Light mixed rain and snow develops
Wednesday Night – Wet snow
Thursday – Intermittent light snow and rain
Thursday Night into Friday Morning – Occasional light snow with potential for an additional 1-2 inches accumulation

PRECIPITATION
Wednesday night through Thursday morning: 1-3” of wet snow expected
Thursday: Rain/Wet Snow mix during the day
Thursday night into Friday Morning: A second round of wet snow (1-2”) is expected

WINDS
A Wind Advisory is in effect from 4PM Wednesday through 6PM Thursday.
Wednesday: 15-25 MPH, gusts 30-50MPH
Wednesday Evening: 25-35MPH, gusts 40-50MPH
Thursday: 25-35MPH, gusts 40-50MPH

COASTAL FLOODING
A Coastal Flood Watch is in effect Wednesday Evening through Thursday morning.
Minor to locally moderate for New York Harbor and Atlantic Facing Shores during Wednesday Night/Thursday Morning High Tide Cycles (Coastal Flood Advisory will be issued)
Moderate flooding expected for Northern Queens and the Bronx Wednesday Night/Thursday Morning High Tide Cycles (Coastal Flood Warning will be issued)

PRODUCTS
A Coastal Flood Watch has been issued for MN, SI, BK, and Southern QN from Wednesday afternoon through late Wednesday night. A Wind Advisory is in effect from 4PM Wednesday through 6PM Thursday.
