VIDEO: Gafne: I am Unwanted in Knesset Because I Have a Beard, Peyos & Yarmulke

gafne[VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE]

Speaking to the Knesset TV Channel Yahadut Hatorah MK Rav Moshe Gafne explained “Yesh Atid did not want us in the coalition because I have a beard, peyos and a kippa.

HOST:

That sounds quite anti-Semitic.

GAFNE:

Bad, bad, bad. If I removed my beard, kippa and peyos and ran the Knesset Finance Committee as I do today I would be a suitable partner. Even worse is the fact that a religious party is going with him hand and hand. Can you imagine if we did something like this, disqualifying and entire sector. We never would do such a thing against anyone, including the Arabs…

He explains last time around, when the NRP teamed with the senior Lapid, Tommy, that led to the expulsion from Gaza.

HOST:

So you saying ultimately, the Creator arranges thing.

GAFNE:

For certain.

  1. Even without a beard, pe’os and a kippah (assume he is wearing a toupee) he would be unacceptable since his party lost the election. His problem is that Jews traditionally tried to include everyone in governance and have no concept of a “loyal opposition” – but he’ll learn. At this point the Nationalist-Free Market-Religious Zionists have 70 seats, and the opposition groups (Socialists, Hareidim, Arabs) have 50 — so a switch of six seats and control changes next election.

  2. Bottom line all this just proves why we’re still in golus. Charedim don’t get along with the Daati Leumi and all the venom spewing since the election just creates one big Chillul Hashem.

  3. “HOST:

So you saying ultimately, the Creator arranges thing.

    GAFNE:

    For certain.”

Huh? Whats the shiechus of the conversation? Is something missing? The questions don’t flow.

  4. This is going on since the founding of the Jewish state of Israel. Just read the history when the founders started this country . Why is this such a big deal now?

  5. Amazing, amazing- we see, befoe our own eyes, the chareidi politicians becoming unhinged because they will not have access to patronage anymore. These comments by Gafni are so disgusting and totally false to boot that anyone who voted for this charlatan should “klap al chet”

  6. In reality, it was Yahadut Hatorah which enabled the expulsion from Gush Katif. When the Mafdal and Echud Leumi left Sharon’s government to protest the decision to destroy Gush Katif, Yahadut Hatora joined the government allowing it to continue with the expulsion.

  7. #6 (jackalan): Which is why the Dati Leumi should be building ties with the Hareidim. Settlement issues are unimportant to the Hareidim, so they’ll gladly trade their votes in return for patronage, welfare state policies or exemption from the military. If the Dati Leumi have the Hareidim as allies, they can count on them for support. As it is, they have made them into enemies, and if the socialists offer them patronage, welfare and an end to conscription then the Hareidim will offer to support the “Left” on settlements (which are important to the Left as well, but not to the Hareidim).

Bennett leading the charge against the Hareidim suggests a serious lack of political good judgement.

Stanley Fischer, the hero of Israeli free marketers considers Gafne one of his closest confidants and ally.

    Au contrarie.
As per Chazon Ish, a proper BALANCE between sinah and ahavah will bring the geulah.

As with every YWN interview, it’s mistranslated.

Gafne sat in opposition from ’92-’96 and ’99-’01

Every drop of yahadus in the country in the past two decades has at least a tad of connection to Gafne

    #6 et al.
    Get your facts straight.
Mafdal sat on the government during the whole “year of orange” and left when it was too late to matter. Gimmel joined the government that had support of a majority without them, and abstained on the vote. This on an issue that R’ Shach had long opposed and predicted tragedy, and was mocked and belittled by mizrachi for it.

  9. What is really at stake here is whether it is permitted in Eretz Yisroel to discriminate against frum yidden like it was permissible to discriminate against them (and blacks and other minorities) in the fifties.

Yes, there is discrimination against frum yidden in Israel. They are hated and denied equal opportunity for work.
