Former Sullivan County Sheriff Dan Hogue Passes Away

hogueFormer Sullivan County Sheriff Dan Hogue has passed away, YWN has learned.

In 2005, after 44 years of law enforcement service, Sullivan County Sheriff Dan Hogue had retured.

Hogue served two four-year terms as Sheriff, after working as Undersheriff for longtime Sullivan County Sheriff Joseph Wasser. Hogue will retire this December.

His service was highly and fondly regarded by friends and fellow members of law enforcement.

Hogue grew up as a young boy in Pittsburgh, and then graduated Monticello High School. He then served in the Army, and then 25 years in the Monticello Police Department, before joining the Sheriff’s Department as undersheriff to legendary, longtime county Sheriff Joseph Wasser.

As Sheriff of the county with more than 100,000 Orthodox Jews vacationing in the summer, Hogue will always be remembered as a person who worked to bridge gaps, and build relationships with the community, and always reached out to community leaders to offer any assistance.

Hogue, a Forestburgh resident, was 75 years old.
