Seminary Backs Down – Jerusalem Approves the 10 Million NIS

nbaAfter months of meetings and some difficult disagreements, the Darchei Rochel (Mendelson) Seminary has finally received Jerusalem City Hall approval for 10 million NIS in funding.

The case surrounds accusation of discrimination against the school, as was reported that the funding to construct the school’s new building was being withheld because the school refused to accept four students. Opponents shouted discrimination while school officials explained the refusal to accept the four was not based on ethnicity but academic considerations.

Whatever the case may be the Vaad Rabbonim for Seminaries found a way to accept the four, who are now attending classes, and the city has lifted the ban on the funding, giving the go ahead for funding.

City officials made their position clear, that the funding would only be released if and when the girls are accepted. It appears the rabbonim realized the situation was not open to discussion and now that the girls are attending classes, the funding is being allocated as planned months ago.
