After announcing that his son Rav Yitzchak Yosef is his candidate to become Israel’s next Rishon L’Tzion, Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita added that the current Rishon L’Tzion, Rabbi Shlomo Yosef Amar will back his candidacy as well.
In recent weeks, after Shas leader Aryeh Deri torpedoed the Amar Bill intended to permit Rav Amar to serve a second term, Rav Amar announced his support for Rav Tzion Boaron.

HOW DOES HE KNOW THAT? if Rav Amar said he is backing Rav Baron then how does this fit all together.
What a joke. Its all about money and political patronage. Rav Yosef says my son is the best candidate and all the others quickly salute and get in line, notwithstanding the fact that some outstanding rabbonim had announced their interest in the job. The government should eliminate this kind of nepotism and ignore Rav Yosef and others who seek to impose their will on the tzibur and instead rely upon an independent advisory board of experts who would make recommendations based entirely on merit rather than political connections.
