druckmanRabbi Chaim Druckman Shlita, a prominent dati leumi rosh yeshiva and posek feels that Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein has compromised Israel’s democratic process by ruling Tzfas Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu is not suited to be a candidate in the Chief Rabbinate race. Rabbi Druckman adds that davka the rav is a most suited candidate to become Israel’s next Rishon L’Tzion.

“The attorney general used his position to disqualify one of the serious candidates, a prominent rav in the Chief Rabbinate and more importantly, his decision influenced the voting body” stated Rav Druckman. The rabbi added “the attorney general does not have the authority regarding the legality of candidates in the Chief Rabbinate race and with his ruling, Weinstein delivered a serious blow to the democratic process in Israel.”

It should be noted that Weinstein’s ruling does not prohibit Rav Eliyahu from running in the race. Weinstein explained that he feels the candidate in not suited to run and therefore, if the candidacy is challenged in the High Court of Justice, which has already occurred, he, the attorney general, cannot defend his position.
