FDNY Statement on EMS Dispatch System Outages

imageBeginning at around 7:45 a.m. this morning, the FDNY’s computer dispatch system for EMS calls began experiencing technical problems followed by intermittent outages totalling about 90 minutes of system downtime. During the outages, call takers have handled and dispatched calls manually. No calls were lost.

Technicians are conducting various diagnostic tests to determine the cause of the EMS system problems. The outages have not affected the two other dispatch systems – iCAD and Starfire – which dispatch police and firefighting resources.

The EMS CAD System is 30 years old and is being replaced as part of the 911 overhaul.
