Truancy Bill Passes First Reading in Knesset

knessetA new truancy bill passed its first reading in Knesset last week before breaking for summer recess. The bill is sponsored by Likud/Beitenu MKs Orli Levy and Yariv Levin. If passed into law, teachers of students including kindergarten and daycare centers will have to phone parents to inform them children have not arrived as scheduled.

The MKs hope the law will increase awareness regarding problems at home, and in the case a child is forgotten in a vehicle, it may lead to saving lives.
