10,000s of Bnei Torah Returning to Limudim

ponIn the shadow of ongoing and increasing efforts to draft bnei torah into the IDF, tens of thousands of bnei torah are returning to beis medrash and schools on the two days of Rosh Chodesh Elul 5773.

Tens of thousands of yeshivos open their doors on 1 Rosh Chodesh Elul, to be followed by tens of thousands of avreichim heading to the beis medrash on Wednesday, 2 Rosh Chodesh Elul.

Rabbonim shlita add that this reality sends a strong message to those working to dilute and destroy limud torah in Eretz Yisrael, for as they toil the commitment to limud torah by the tzibur at large strengthens. Rabbonim continue to vow they will defy any draft law and avreichim will be instructed to head for prison rather than an IDF induction center.

  1. For those who say that it is ONLY the bochrim that learn who offer protection to E”Y, I ask (once again), what protected E”Y while they were on vacation? Oh. Maybe for THAT the IDF is useful….

  2. @Yanky55: I’m in Israel now, finishing up a Bein Hazmanim. Anyone who’s ever stepped foot in a Bais Medrash during Bein Hazmanim would know that there are bachurim and yungerleit learning from morning until night. But you wouldn’t know that, would you.

  3. Baruch Hashem we are back to learning. Commentators need to chill and let cooler heads prevail.

No one denies we need an army.I respect the work ethic and courage of our soldiers. My family volunteers @ Sar-El.Worldwide Sar-El volunteers come to volunteer on bases. They do jobs like paint helmits and clean tanks. This helps relieve soldiers from mundane tasks.

Now Yanky55 and others,it doesn’t make sense financially for the army to inscript bochrim,at a time when Chief Benny Gantz is trying to find ways to cut 20 billion sheckels from the IDF budget. This is suspect.

In terms of the protection given by serious talmud Torah, when We toil down here, the Torah toils for us elsewhere.

We need Torah Iron dome and a standing army! We always have and always will until Mosiach comes.

  4. #1 – we, the chareidim, learn and pray during our vacation days too. And also we mourn the destruction of the Temple and all the deaths of the Jewish people, that were killed just because they were Jewish. Is that a surprise for you?!

  5. Well said, #3.

For all you other wise guys, I don’t doubt for a moment that there were plenty of guys learning. I’m sure there were plenty who were not, though. As I have pointed out numerous other times to those who claim the only protection for E”Y is the learning of bochrim, even if the IDF were to draft every 18-21 year old (and they certainly will not, as there will be plenty of exemptions) why wouldn’t the learning of all the other guys older and younger offer any protection? I am only addressing the protection issue. Please don’t get started on the so-called “traif” IDF.

Finally, #5- you seem to have no clue as to what an am ha’aretz is.

  6. For once….can we PLEASE all just get along? If a poster/blogger makes a crazy comment, just let it be, no need to get bent out of a shape and stoop to his/her level!

It’s Elul, enough with the pettyness, please!

  7. It says specifically : …” tens of thousands of bnei torah are RETURNING to beis medrash and schools on the two days of Rosh Chodesh …”
Returning— Means they weren’t there bein hazmanim.
I’m sure there were many who stayed and never left. But some posters make it sound like everybody was there all the time.
I’m not knocking those who left… Everybody needs a break, see family , fly home, etc… But just let’s just be honest. Most weren’t there, that’s what it says, and it’s a fact..
