MK Orbach Wants Chacham Cohen Ousted from the Rabbanut

cohenIn a brazen move, Minister of Senior Citizen Affairs (Bayit Yehudi) Uri Orbach is calling to remove HaGaon HaRav Shalom Cohen Shlita from any position of influence in the rabbonus. Chacham Cohen is a member of Shas’ Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael as well as Rosh Yeshivat Porat Yosef. He is also very close to Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita.

Orbach’s move is sparked by Rav Cohen alluding to Bayit Yehudi in a derogatory fashion once again, this time during the coronation of Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef on Monday, 12 Tishrei 5774. Rav Cohen turned to his close friend Deputy Minister of Religious Services (Bayit Yehudi) Rabbi Eli Ben-Dahan and spoke harshly of his affiliation with the dati leumi party, which he used harsh words against on a number of occasions in the past.

Orbach stated he is sick and tired of hearing these derogatory remarks and as such, it is time to move people like Rabbi Cohen out of positions of influence.

  1. He is right…this rav is no “Chacham” if he uses derogatory language about those he disagrees with. Same for the Dati Leumi leadership who have made some vile comments about Yosef and the Shas part leadership. Both sides need to cool the rhetoric and learn to communicate respectfully.

  2. Actually Rav Cohen shlit”a should have been made Chief Rabbi of Israel. He’s from the few who’s not afraid to say the truth. Since he’s not part of the government, there’s no way the MKs can oust his from his position, just like they can’t oust Rav Ovadia shlit”a or any Chassidic Rebbe.

  3. He is sick and tired of hearing derogatory remarks. I guess the remarks are right on the button, otherwise they wouldn’t bother him so much.
Also, if he is already sick and tired of it, he should find another job, because this is part of democracy.
