NYC: 1st Snowflakes Fall As Arctic Air Blasts Northeast

coldGet ready for the coldest temperatures of the season Tuesday, with temperatures dropping steadily throughout the day.

The bitter blast is also bringing some rain and the first snowflakes of the season across the New York area, particularly to the north and west of New York City and in northern New Jersey.

While the band of snow is expected to pass over the city between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m., WCBSTV meteorologists said some flurries will linger around as late as 1:30 p.m. on the eastern end of Long Island and in Ocean County, N.J.

The wet snow is not expected to accumulate on the ground. No area should receive more than an inch.

The snow will be followed by frigid temperatures. The high will be around 41 degrees in the city, along with winds of about 15 mph throughout much of Tuesday, according to the forecast. By night, the low will dip to 25 to 30 degrees, but feel closer to 20 with the wind chill.

Wednesday is expected to be similarly cold before the temperature climbs back into the 50s Thursday.
