Assimilation Bill Defeated in Knesset

knessetA bill that intended to bring Jews and Arabs closer together was defeated in Knesset on Wednesday, 8 Teves 5774. The bill was sponsored by Meretz MK Esawi Frij, who feels a need to bring Jewish and Arab students closer to one another.

If passed into law, all students in the state school system would have to be part of two interfaith get-togethers during one’s 12 years of schooling.

MK Frij explained that “during a period when racism rears its ugly head and price tag attacks become commonplace, it is important to take a step to better acquaint Israeli and Arab students with one another”. The majority of his fellow lawmakers did not agree.

  1. Remember that it is the majority that assimilate the minority. The idea would be to encourage the Arabs to be more like secular zionists (not to make the secular Israelis more like pious Muslims or Christians). The attempts by the secular zionists (such as Meretz) to assimilate the Arabs have greatly offended the Muslims (in particular). There is no danger such activities will cause secular zionists to act more like goyim, since they already act like goyim. To worry about secular Israelis “assimilating” is like worrying about corpses decaying – you are late by a century.

  2. Assimilation Bill is defeated until Education Minister Mr. Piron with his director Mr. Lapid will insist on it and threaten Bennett to vote for it.

  3. In America, where there were clearly oppressed non-white minorities, such innovations make some sense. But the Arabs have spent 60+ years being the Ku Klux Klan of the Middle East. How much closer do we need to get to understand them? What more is there to know?
