NYC: Freezing Light Rain & Drizzle Today – Low Temperatures Tonight and Thursday


weatherDeveloping low pressure will move east across eastern Long Island this afternoon then depart to the northeast tonight. High pressure will build in Thursday into Friday. A series of lows will then pass to the south this weekend into early next week. The heaviest of today’s precipitation has moved out of the area. Light rain and drizzle or freezing light rain and drizzle can be expected tonight. Untreated frozen/refreezing surfaces will create very slippery conditions. Another significant precipitation event is possible late this weekend.

PRECIPITATION AND TIMING
The storm is essentially over, however, intermittent light rain or freezing rain can be expected for the rest of the afternoon with lingering drizzle until about 9:00-10:00 PM. The chance of precipitation this afternoon is 100 percent, which will drop to 30 percent tonight. Mostly sunny conditions are forecasted for Thursday.

Mostly cloudy conditions begin to cover the area Friday into Saturday. At this point the chance of snow for Sunday is 50 percent. NWS has indicated that it is too early for specifics for this weekend (the energy for the system that’s expected this Saturday/Sunday is still in the Pacific), but light snowfall is forecasted at this point.

TEMPERATURES
Today: near steady temperature in the lower 30s.
Tonight: lows in the lower 20s.
Untreated frozen/refreezing surfaces will create very slippery conditions.

Thursday: highs in the upper 20s; lows around 20.
Friday: highs around 30; lows 15 to 20.
Saturday: highs in the low 30s; lows in the mid 20s.
