Police have completed the investigation into alleged fraud charges involving former Chief Rabbi Yonah Metzger and a recommendation has been made to the state prosecutor to move ahead with a criminal indictment. Police signal they have gathered sufficient evidence against the rabbi to compel and indictment against him.
The investigation was handled by the 433 Unit, Israel’s FBI, and senior officers involved signal they can prove the rabbi was involved in law-breaking including money laundering, fraud and breach of trust involving millions of shekels.
One senior police officer interviewed by Israel Radio stated she is confident that the rabbi will be found guilty of serious charges, adding all of the illegal monetary activities involved cash only as the senior civil servant did not deposit any money into bank accounts.
