Gafne to Minister Piron: You are a Chareidi Hater

gafniEducation Minister (Yesh Atid) Rabbi Shai Piron on Tuesday morning 16 Adar II presented his plan to cut summer vacation to the Knesset Education Committee. The minister explained his plan entrails creating “an envelope of education” for the nation’s school children, which includes educational programs during summer vacation.

The program as he envisions it will be introduced gradually, beginning at the end of this school year with first and second graders. They will enjoy a three-week educational and fun summer camp program.

At some point MK Rabbi Moshe Gafne turned to the minister and called him a “Chareidi hater”, questioning “don’t chareidi children deserve summer camp too?”

When Piron first announced his plan a few short weeks ago Gafne also lashed out against him at which time the minister stated “You made a decision that you want autonomy and to this autonomy carries a price”. He explained the program is only intended for public schools and those recognized schools willing to accept the ministry education curriculum.

  1. Okay, R. Gafne is being a hypocrite since he wants zionist money but not the strings attached. A hareidi politician would say “keep your money” since I don’t want to have to listen to you.

  2. Welcome to the Charedim of Israel. They don’t want to play by the rules but want all the benefits of those who do.

  3. Yes they do but the taxpayers shouldn’t throw millions of NIS at school systems that are unwilling to subscribe to minimal educational standards. These are public tax dollars and they have a right to require some accountability. The parents of these kids can also enroll them in the public school programs for the summer if that is their preference. In the U.S., we fund private schools for transportation and security expenses and stuff that can be monitored by the public school authorities.

  4. Rabbi Yoni: You do understand that the subsidies, along with the exemption from military service were a BRIBE to get the hareidim to see the State of Israel as their own. Both the establishment hareidim (such as R. Gafne) and the zionists forgot that. Now the anti-zionists are coming to the fore. You should approve of them. They reject zionist money. They refuse to fight in your army not because they are lazy or busy learning – but because they consider you to be warmongering apikoresim and they will gladly announce that to the world (and once you start arrests, the world will listen). — You should have paid off R. Gafne and his friends, all they wanted was a little money for hinuch and to be left alone and they agreed to play nice with you, many of them volunteered for the IDF. — The Zionists made a big mistake in trading a bribeable “hareidi” for idealistic ones that can’t be bribed but can threated the survival of the medinah.

  5. Kuperman really needs a reality check as to what’s going the Knesset, and to hopefully stay out of my country. We have enough traitors already.
