Bayit Yehudi to Oppose Giyur Bill at Any Price

bdaDeputy Minister of Religious Services Rabbi Eli Ben-Dahan has turned to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, calling upon him to halt the giyur bill that has been approved by the Knesset Law Committee, now awaiting a second and third/final reading in Knesset to become law. The Law Committee approved the bill on Tuesday, 16 Adar II and the bill now awaits final voting in Knesset to become law.

Ben-Dahan reminds the prime minister that in line with coalition agreements, Bayit Yehudi maintains veto authority on any and all religious legislation and if compelled to do so, it will use that veto authority in this case.

The dati leumi kippa website reports a Bayit Yehudi party official has stated the party will not permit the bill as it stands today to pass into law.

  1. The only bill that is acceptable is one that meets the Chief Rabbinate requirements. One that does not will create to standards of Giyur. 1 – One accepted by religious Jews 2- One recognized by the state only. This would disenfranchise the non-religious Jews and create a situation like in the USA where people think they are Jewish but are not. It would also break the country into those who are Jews according to Halacha and the psudo-Jews. Of course the non-religious would lose the most with a bill like this. It’s important that the message that is delivered to all the non-religious is that they are the ones who would be affected by this legislation.
