Councilman David G. Greenfield worked closely with the Department of Sanitation and the Fire Department to ensure that the proper preparations including additional trash collections are in place for Pesach. This year there will be more trash collection, more dumpsters and more chametz burning sites than ever before.
To serve the needs of the community’s Pesach celebrations, the Sanitation Department will place large Dumpsters at the following locations in Boro Park & Midwood starting Sunday, April 13th to midnight Monday April 14th:
· 9th Avenue and 50th Street;

· Avenue N and E. 8th Street.
In addition, the following collection schedule has been put in place to accommodate the extra garbage before Pesach. On Monday, April 14th the entirety of Borough Park & Midwood’s Community Board 12 will receive garbage and recycling collections. All recycling and trash should be placed at the curb by Sunday evening as recycling pick up will start Sunday at midnight and conclude 8 a.m. on Monday. Trash pickup will begin at 6 a.m. on Monday and finish by 2 p.m. Areas that are along routes usually served on Mondays and Thursdays will have regular garbage pickup on Sunday, and all churches will receive a Sunday, April 13th collection for Palm Sunday.
In the area of Borough Park, Midwood and Bensonhurst served by Community Board 11, three trucks will be working from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday the 14thin the following sections:
· 68th Street to 66th Street from 14th Avenue and Bay Parkway;
· 65th Street to 61st Street from 14th Avenue to McDonald Avenue;
· Bay Parkway to 14th Avenue from 86th Street to 78th Street;
· 20th Avenue to Bay Parkway from Shore Parkway to Bay Parkway;
· Bay Parkway to 26th Avenue from Shore Parkway to Avenue P and Kings Highway.
“This is one of the busiest times of the year around Borough Park and Midwood. With that in mind, I work closely with city agencies and community leaders to make sure our community receives the additional services required to prepare for the yomtov. I especially want to thank the FDNY, NYPD and Sanitation Department for the incredible work they do on behalf of our community to help make sure everyone enjoys Pesach. In addition, my thanks to CB 11 District Manager Marnee Elias-Pavia for accommodating the request of board member Yoni Glatzer for the extra pickups in that section of the district,” said Councilman Greenfield.
Midwood’s Community Board 14 also offers additional sanitation collection. For areas with regular pick up on Tuesday and Friday or Wednesday and Saturday the plan provides for an additional collection on Monday April 14th. Residents with pick up on Monday and Thursday will receive an additional pick up on Friday April 11th. An additional Monday recycling collection will occur from midnight on Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday the 14th. All recycling materials must be placed out by the evening of Sunday April 13th.
In addition, Councilman Greenfield worked with the FDNY and local community boards to establish 33 sites for the burning of the chometz, to allow residents to safely take part in this tradition. The fires will be allowed to burn at those sites from 8:30 a.m. to 11:35 a.m. Monday April 14th and will be overseen by Shomrim, Chaveirim and the Fire Department’s Education and Marshall units.
“I want to thank the Sanitation, Fire and Police departments along with Shomrim and Chaverim for making this day safe and more accessible to the community. I especially want to thank the Sanitation Department for their extra pickups and the cleanup effort after the chometz burning ends. Once again I caution people to stick to the designated burning sites and only throw in chometz and not garbage or anything combustible so that everyone can enjoy a happy and healthy Yom Tov,” said Yidel Perlstein, chairman of Community Board 12.
Greenfield also thanked Shomrim, Chaverim, Hatzolah, Misaskim and Chaim Fleischer and Rabbi Edgar Gluck for their long-time advocacy and help in pre-Pesach preparations.
