NY Senate Holds Hearing On E-Cigarette Rules

ecigState lawmakers are looking into whether to include electronic cigarettes in the state’s indoor public smoking ban.

The Senate Health Committee panel heard testimony from health experts saying that the nicotine liquid and the vapor the e-cigarettes produce could potentially be hazardous to a consumer’s health.

The panel of lawmakers from both sides of the aisle also heard from opponents of the ban who say it would infringe on the rights of business owners.

Health experts also cited the unknown second-hand vapor as a potential threat to the public, but ongoing research hasn’t yet produced a definitive answer.

The hearing on Monday comes on the heels of New York City’s decision to ban indoor smoking of e-cigarettes.
