Deputy Minister Rabbi Ben-Dahan Against The Chief Rabbis

icrOpposing the desire of the chief rabbis, Deputy Minister of Religious Services Rabbi Eli Ben-Dahan appointed the general-manager of his office to the post of director-general of the Chief Rabbinate, Elchanan Glatt.

Many view the appointment as nothing less than chutzpah, as Ben-Dahan defied the word of both Chief Rabbis of Israel, acting in his own interests, placing Glatt atop of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel hierarchy. According to a Yisrael Hayom report, current Director-General Oded Viner will be stepping down at months end.

Kikar Shabbos reports that sources in the Chief Rabbinate of Israel report Rishon LTzion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef and Chief Rabbi David Lau are furious, questioning the absurd practice of forcing an unwanted director-general on the chief rabbis.

The fact that the ministry does not even consult with the rabbonim prior to making such a senior appointment is yet another sign of the animosity that exists between the ministry and the Chief Rabbinate of Israel.

It’s actually more of a sign of the animosity that exists between the government and Hashem…

  2. This is more a sign of the animosity that exists between the charedim who pulled off a hostile takeover of the Chief Rabbinate and the Religious Zionists who control religious matters in the current elected government. This is very sad.
