Presidential candidate MK (Likud) Reuven Rivlin met with Yahadut Hatorah MKs in a special meeting to permit him to seek their support. In the Wednesday morning 14 Iyar meeting, Rivlin tried to persuade the chareidi MKs to back his candidacy and work towards his election. Last month the MKs held a similar meeting to meet with candidate Binyamin Ben-Eliezer (Labor).
Working in Rivlin’s favor is the fact that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is working in earnest to make sure he does not get the post. This is an additional reason for Yahadut Hatorah to support his candidacy. At present it appears the party will permit its MKs to vote as they see fit, for any candidate they wish. This is what was done in the last presidential election.
In the Shas camp the Sephardi party has yet to announce which of the candidates it will be supporting.
