Members of the Lakewood Township community are honoring the heroic actions of those men and women who have served in the military and are now serving in the military on Monday, May 26, 2014, with a parade and services at the All War Memorial Amphitheater at Lake Carasaljo, North Lake Drive. Lakewood Mayor Menashe Miller has announced the schedule of events:

The Memorial Day ceremony will begin in Town Square at 10:00 a.m. with the raising of the flag and an Invocation by Pastor Glen Wilson. The Memorial Day Parade will start at 10:15 a.m., beginning with the Lakewood High School Marching Band stopping to play at the Review Stand, Third and Clifton avenues.

The Memorial Day Parade will then pass the Review Stand, proceed down Clifton Avenue, making a right onto Main Street (Route 88), crossing Route 9 South, and proceeding the All War Memorial Amphitheater where the Memorial Day program will take place.

Participants in the Memorial Day parade include the Lakewood Police Department, the Lakewood Police Color Guards, the Lakewood High School JROTC Color Guards, Lakewood American Legion Post #166, Lakewood Elks Lodge #1432, Jewish War Veterans Post #178, SCHI (School for Children with Hidden Intelligence), PRAB (Puerto Rican Action Board), Stomp Ground Martial Arts, Reporte Hispano, Lakewood High School Marching Band, Monmouth Medical Center – Southern Campus, Monmouth Medical Center –Mobile, Lakewood Blue Claws, Lakewood Little League, New Life Christian Center, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, the New Jersey State Police, the NYPD, the Lakewood Civilian Safety Watch, the Lakewood Chaveirim, the Lakewood Fire Department, Lakewood Hatzolah, Lakewood First Aid Squad, and Lakewood EMS.

The tentative agenda for the service includes the opening remarks by Mayor Miller; the posting of the colors by the JROTC; singing of the National Anthem led by the Lakewood High School Marching Band; the dismissal of colors by the JROTC; an invocation by Pastor Raquel Salguero; a prayer for our overseas troops by Chaplain Major Raphael Berdugo; the laying of the wreaths by various organizations; a twenty-one gun salute by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department; Taps by buglers from the Lakewood High School Marching Band; a closing benediction by Pastor Marcia Griffin, and the singing of God Bless America, led by Cantor Avromi Flam

In case of inclement weather the Memorial Day ceremony will be postponed.
