Obama: Muslims Built the Fabric of our Nation

obabOn Sunday, President Obama and First Lady Michelle released a statement thanking Muslim Americans for their many “achievements and contributions… to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy.”

The comments were made to mark the celebration of Eid-al-Fitr, a time of spiritual renewal for Muslims which comes at the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan. The Obamas said in their statement that Eid “celebrates the common values that unite us in our humanity” and “welcomed their commitment to giving back to their communities.” The International Business Times reports that during Eid, Muslims join in Islamic prayer, while saying “Allahu Akbar,” or “God is Great,” and feasting.
The statement further reads that the administration “wishes Muslims in the United States and around the world a blessed and joyous celebration.” The letter ended with salutation of “Eid Mubarak,” which roughly means “blessed celebration.”

  2. Hmmmm, can he list any of those alleged accomplishment, contribution and shared value? Maybe he was thinking about us, not Muslims.

  3. Hamas
    Islamic jihad
Just a short list of Islamic contributions….

  4. The “fabric” of the nation? Maybe one of them had a material store! These people have contributed nothing to society, to humanity, to any nation, except death.

  5. As I recall, there were no Muslim signers of the Declaration of Independence or at the first Constitutional Convention. Building the fabric of our nation?

  6. The president is probably referring to the moslem slave traders who supplied the US south with the slaves needed to work the cotton fields and so greatly contributed to the fabric of our nation.

Oh, and we can’t forget jibril hancock and thomas jihaderson 2 of the framers of the US constitution.

  7. http://www.adc.org/?id=247

Arabs did contribute. A lot. And we suffered much less from Islam than from that other religion if we really want to compare world religions and influences…

No one should be naive enough to not know at least basic history. However, this doesn’t take away from the barbaric and hate-filled nature of today’s people of Gaza and the West Bank.
The “palestinians” never protected the Jewish holy sites as much as Israel protects theirs today. Look at what the Kotel looked like less than 50 years ago. Look at har hazeisim. Look at Kever Yosef..etc.

  8. Important to remember that many responsible mature Muslims have betrayed their murderous fellows and helped prevent many massive terrorist attacks and saved thousands of Jewish lives. One of their contributions to the world, which we use constantly without thinking of it, is the Arabic numeral system, which replaced the far more cumbersome Roman numerals (I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX etc.) which prevailed in Europe until the 1200s. Remember also that when German Chancellor Angela Merkel was awarded the “Lord Jakobovits Prize for European Jewry” by the Council of European Rabbis at the Great Synagogue of Bruxelles last year, the head of the Belgian Muslim Council attended.

  9. for all the ignoramuses out there who are blinded by modern day muslims I recommend you do some research into everything Muslims in history have done.
they have been key contributors in the creation of math and numbers
the Muslim philosophers were key in the revival of aristotelian philosophy. If you ever learn Moreh Nevuchim you will see that they heavily influenced the Rambam. He believed that Aristotle was a genius just went off on certain points. all thanks to muslim philosophers

what you see today should not disqualify what has been done in the past

  10. I think that every time they slaughter each other, which is the case in all moslem nations, every single Arab killed is another GREAT CONTRIBUTION to planet earth.

  11. Fabric of our nation? For sure! How about we give Muslims back all the hand made rugs, Muslims’ far biggest contributions to the USA, and they undo the damage done on 9/11, including lives lost, and other such infamous “gifts”.

  13. # 14, 16, 17 I agree that the early Muslims have contributed much to science and mathematics. What the president said, however is “building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy”. Where do you see that? There hadn’t been a significant Muslim population for such an influence.

  14. Muslims being in the United States, along with other ethnic, religious, and racial groups is what makes the United States look diverse and accepting. Since it’s a Muslim holiday the President wants to highlight Muslims. (Why in the world am I defending Obama)

PS. I liked the old picture.

  15. @jewish reason – This is true that they have contributed much in history. About 1000 years ago, there were major contributions made by the Muslim world. This was in Mathematics (algebra comes from Arabic word al-jebr) as well as philosophy. However, that is kind of irrelevant to what Obama said. Since the United States was born (actually since the mid-13th century) there has been almost zero contribution to society by the Muslim world.
Also, although they were more peaceful with the Jews than they are now, it was never a real peaceful coexistence. The Jews were clearly second class citizens (dhimmi in the Muslim parlance). They paid heavy extra taxes in order to get “protection” by the government. They had many limitations on what they were able to do – specifically with inheritance of land). It was not exactly paradise for the Jewish people.

  16. “Por on” & “Jewish reason”
Other religions have evolved where as they have became sub human barbarians & currently do not contribute anything but EVIL.

  17. I’m not so knowledgeable when it comes to history. However, posting about the Muslims contributions to mankind hundreds of years ago, is irrelevant to this article. President Obama is quoted as thanking them for, “achievements and contributions… to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy.”

  18. So why are we riding around in cars and they on donkeys in 2014?
Think of where the Saudis would be if we were also riding donkeys today? LoL

  19. This is what happens when this Kenyan sat in all those hate filled speeches by his mentor, Jeremiah Wright. Barry is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

  20. I can’t believe that some one is so stupid as to credit Muslims with any contribution to building America.

We used to call it ‘brown nosing’ up to a person when you give flattery that is so excessive that it is obviously not true.

  21. while its true that the rambam had a very high opinion of aristo it did not come from muslim influence but from his own studies and to say that the moreh nevochim was was influenced in anyway by muslim teachings is a MALIG AL DIVREI CHACHUMIM AND IS chayev mise umein kein yehi rutzoin

  23. All the above comments have not even touched any suggestion what the Muslims have contributed toward the “fabric of our nation”. Arabic numerals? American history. Think! Nothing? I guess not.

  24. I don’t know enough about Islam or Muslims to know whether there is any substance to Pres. Obama’s remarks, or whether this is just the usual political pandering that every perceived voting block gets (Jews on Rosh Hashanah, Xians on Xmas and Easter, Buddhists on … Buddha’s birthday(?), etc.) I am impressed that so many YWN readers have found the time to learn so much abou, Islam and Muslims, notwithstanding that they devote so much time to learning Torah and glad that they have seen fit to share their learning with us.

  25. There was an old expression that went “Just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean the whole world is not out to get you.” Similarly, “just because this was a smart political move, doesn’t mean President Obama does not hate the Jews and is pro-Muslim.

  26. what did the muslims ever do for this country except blow it up . what can one expect from barak “hussein” obama ? I always believed he was a disguised muslim

  27. It is so simple. if not for the muslims we would not have the Ground Zero Museum and the new One World Trade Center (which costed $3.9 billion).
we have them to thank for furthering the US economy. the amount of jobs terrorism has created. all the arms manufacturing, the soldier training, medical personal, the entire intelligence community, all the ‘counter terrorism’ groups. they have created all these jobs.
if not for muslems, good old hussein obama would have a very hard time trying to create jobs for all these people.
this is all part of their many “achievements and contributions”

  28. I can’t believe the white house speech writers are this ignorant of US history or believe the general population is stupid enough to swallow the line about Muslims creating the fabric of our society.

Where can one find the entire original text of this message?

  29. “wishes Muslims in the United States and around the world a blessed and joyous celebration.”

Wonderful. Meanwhile they are cheering for Hamas so that they can kill Jews.

  30. “Only thing they did was give us this Muslim president. Certainly not a positive accomplishment”

“Only thing they did was give us this Muslim president” – No, they did not give. American people elected him. And this is – “Certainly not a positive accomplishment”

  31. Theres one of 3 options to explain this statement of Herr Obama:
    1. Either the president is the biggest ignoramus on 2 feet.
    2. Hes a liar who lies to everyone who he speaks to and just tries to flatter them.
    3. He smokes crack and is totally disconnected from reality.

  32. “As I recall, there were no Muslim signers of the Declaration of Independence or at the first Constitutional Convention. Building the fabric of our nation? ”

As I recall, there were no Jewish signers of the Declaration of Independence or at the first Constitutional Convention. Maybe we don’t want to go in this direction.

  33. al hagovah: Why did you leave out 08 Economics Nobel Prize winner Paul Krugman, one of the most distinguished economists in the country. Was it because he’s a liberal NY Times columnist and big Obama supporter?

  34. Some of you are confusing Muslim for Arab. Arabs were at one point the main promulgators of phylosophy and science, Islam inhibited these things. The more Islamic the less scientific. Those who were intelectual and those fighting were separate clans.

    #13, I love that comment.

  35. @ #48, CharlieHall —

Once again you show your ignorance at basic American history. The framers were Christians whose values were based on Jewish ideas. If you would read The Five Thousand Year Leap, you would understand that most of our country was founded on these ideals. For instance, our judicial system is based on the one Yisro suggested to Moshe. That is why it is well known (at least to knowledgeable people) that our country was founded on Judea-Christain values. Not Muslim values. Can anyone tell me what Islam values our country was founded on? What are their contributions to our CORE? And for him to use the word “democracy” and “Muslim” in the same sentence is just a total joke. Name me ONE Muslim country that is a democracy.

I totally agree that he is either high on who knows what the tax payers are paying for, or totally delusional. Either way, he is a crack pot and a disgrace to America.

  36. OBamas would to pull the fabric over the eyes of the american people
To show that being a Muslim is something good there is noting good about them in the last 2000 years ago they were just Arabs they did good things 1’s they became Muslims all they do is kill people and call everyone elas infidels as if they are batter then others

  37. Old rant. Not my own, but good anyway.

    Dear Mr. President,

Have you ever seen a Muslim hospital?

Have you heard a Muslim orchestra?

Have you seen a Muslim band march in a parade?

Have you witnessed a Muslim charity?

Have you shaken hands with a Muslim Girl Scout?

Have you seen a Muslim Candy Striper?

The answer is no, you have not. Just ask yourself WHY ???

Barack Obama, during his Cairo speech, said:
“I know, too, that Islam has always been a part
    of America’s history.”

    Dear Mr. Obama:

Were those Muslims that were in America when the Pilgrims first landed?
Funny, I thought they were Native American Indians.

Were those Muslims that celebrated the first Thanksgiving day?
Sorry again, those were Pilgrims and
    Native American Indians.

Can you show me one Muslim signature on the: United States Constitution?
    Declaration of Independence ?
    Bill of Rights?
    Didn’t think so.

Did Muslims fight for this country’s freedom from England ?
Did Muslims fight during the Civil War to free the slaves in America ?
    No, they did not.
In fact, Muslims to this day are
still the largest traffickers in human slavery.
    Your own half-brother, a devout
Muslim, still advocates slavery himself, even
though Muslims of Arabic descent refer to black Muslims as “pug nosed slaves.”
Says a lot of what the Muslim world really thinks of your family’s “rich Islamic heritage,” doesn’t it Mr. Obama?
Where were Muslims during the Civil Rights era of this country?
    Not present.
There are no pictures or media accounts of Muslims walking side by side with Martin Luther King, Jr.
or helping to advance the cause of Civil Rights.
Where were Muslims during this country’s
    Woman’s Suffrage era?
    Again, not present.
In fact, devout Muslims demand that women are subservient to men in the Islamic culture.
So much so, that often they are beaten for
    not wearing the ‘hajib’ or
for talking to a man who is not a direct family member or their husband.
Yep, the Muslims are all for women’s rights,
    aren’t they?
Where were Muslims during World War II?
They were aligned with Adolf Hitler.
The Muslim grand mufti himself met with Adolf Hitler, reviewed the troops and
accepted support from the Nazi’s in killing Jews.

    Finally, Mr. Obama,
where were Muslims on Sept. 11th, 2001?
If they weren’t flying planes into
the World Trade Center , the Pentagon or
a field in Pennsylvania killing nearly 3,000
people on our own soil, they were rejoicing
    in the Middle East .
No one can dispute the pictures
shown from all parts of the Muslim world
celebrating on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and other cable news network’s that day.
    Strangely, the very “moderate” Muslims
who’s asses you bent over backwards to kiss in
Cairo, Egypt on June 4th were
    stone cold silent post 9-11.
    To many Americans,
    their silence has meant approval
for the acts of that day.
    And THAT, Mr. Obama,
is the “rich heritage” Muslims have here
    in America …

    Oh, I’m sorry, I
forgot to mention the Barbary Pirates.
    They were Muslims.
And now we can add November 5, 2009 –
the slaughter of American soldiers at
Fort Hood by a Muslim major who is a doctor
and a psychiatrist who was supposed to be
counseling soldiers returning from battle in
    Iraq and Afghanistan .
Also, don’t forget the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15.2013 was done by 2 Muslim Brothers. That, Mr. Obama
is the “Muslim heritage” in America
