Mayor: NYC Will Learn From 2004 RNC ‘Mistakes’

dncMayor Bill de Blasio is making a final appeal for the Democrats to choose Brooklyn for their 2016 convention.

De Blasio said Tuesday that the city has the mass transit system needed to host the more than 30,000 people expected to attend.

He also said the city “will learn from mistakes” made during the last time it hosted a major political convention.

The city hosted the Republicans in 2004 at Madison Square Garden and more than 1,800 demonstrators were arrested.

The city agreed in January to pay nearly $18 million to settle civil rights claims stemming from the arrests.

The DNC is wrapping up a two-day visit to New York.

Brooklyn is one of five finalists for the convention. A decision is expected by early next year.

  1. Hard not to laugh at this since the mayor still hasn’t learned from some of the mistakes made by Dinkins whose administration DeBlasio was a part of. I wonder how he will implement any learning about a situation from 10 years ago and during an administration he had nothing to do with.

  2. hes probably talking about the mistake of allowing Repulicans into nyc.
no need to worry about the radical antiwar lefties demonstrating the DNC convention.
