More than 400 of Monsey’s morahs and mechanchos gathered Sunday night, June 7, at the New York Country Club in Spring Valley for “A Night for Our Mechanchos,” an appreciation dinner and networking event hosted by Torah Umesorah’s newly launched Monsey Teacher Center.
Invitations had gone out to every classroom teacher in Monsey, drawing a turnout as diverse as the community itself. The room filled past capacity, and the energy was unmistakable. “What amazing energy! What k’vod Shamayim to see how respected and appreciated our teachers are!” said one attendee, taking in the room.
The setting matched the message. Set on a private golf course, the venue welcomed guests with waterfalls at the entrance and dessert on the outdoor veranda. Every carefully chosen detail — the music, the lighting, the flowers — said the same thing: Teachers, you give all day. Tonight, we give something back.
The evening opened with remarks from Mrs. Rochel Zimmerman, Director of Chinuch HaBanos, and Mrs. Estee Heitner, Monsey Regional Director and chief coordinator. From there, the program moved into divrei pesicha by Rabbi Yisroel Mordechai Falk — followed by one of the night’s most anticipated moments: a live Q&A with Rabbi Chaim Yehoshua Hoberman of the Torah Umesorah Vaad Roshei Yeshiva, fielding questions submitted by the teachers themselves.
The heart of the night was the K’mayim Program, presented by Rabbi Meir Simcha Stein and brought to life by Rebbetzin Gitty Eisenberg of Bais Yaakov of Monsey in a practical, interactive demonstration.
The response was overwhelming. “This is so regal, so elegant. We are walking away feeling like someone appreciates us for all we do,” one teacher shared. Another, who had a simcha in a different city that night, chose to stay — because this, she said, was her simcha.
The Monsey Teacher Center is one of seven regional centers Torah Umesorah operates nationwide, now bringing certificate programs, training, and resources home to Monsey’s teachers — a standing promise that the women who carry chinuch in Monsey are not carrying it alone. None of it would be possible without the generosity of our donors, whose dedication to chinuch made this evening — and every evening like it — a reality.
