Veteran PA (Palestinian Authority) negotiator Dr. Saeb Erekat has made an appeal to the United States to refrain from using its veto authority to block the PA (Palestinian Authority) initiative in the United Nations Security Council. The PA proposal seeks to “end the Israeli occupation” by 2017 towards establishing a Palestinian state.
Speaking from Moscow, Erekat explained the PA proposal is based on the two-state solution and it calls for the establishment of a nation with eastern areas of Jerusalem serving as the capital of that nation. He mentioned how the PA has signed 16 international charters including joining the International Court of Justice and that it is entitled to this proposal due to its current standing.
The PA requires nine of the fifteen Security Council votes for the proposal to pass.
Interestingly, Hamas is opposed to the proposal too, announcing it does not comply with the “Palestinian consensus”.
