Jerusalemites Waken to a Snow-Covered Erev Shabbos


photos1For the few who did not feel the need to shop for Shabbos early, they will find it most difficult to find a store open this erev Shabbos. The residents of Yerushalayim on erev Shabbos 2 Rosh Chodesh Adar wakened to a white reality as the snow did accumulate and in some area, the snowfall continues. In many yishuvim throughout Yehuda and Shomron the same reality is true as they are totally snow covered. A white dusting was also seen in many areas including the Negev, Carmel and there was even snow in Maale Adumim.

The weatherman reports accumulations in Yerushalayim reached 30cm (11.8 inches) and in the N. Golan Heights, snow accumulations are more significant. Snowfall also began falling during the early morning hours in the Har HaNegev, Mitzpei Ramon and Carmel areas.

Due to the significant snowfall in the capital, the entrances to the city are blocked. The Jerusalem – Tel Aviv Highway is closed to and from the capital from Latrun Interchange. The Jerusalem-Modi’in Highway is closed to and from the capital at Maccabim-Reut. Also closed are Route 37 from Tzur Hadassah to Ella Junction, Route 395 from Eshtaol Junction to Tzuba and Route 386 in the Bar Giora area.

Other road closures include Route 98 in the Golan Heights, Route 91 from Shiriyon Junction, Route 978 from West Junction, Route 99 in the Mapal Saar area. In the Upper Galil, closures include access to Tzfas, Route 89 in the Chorpish Junction area, Route 89 from Sasa Junction, Route 89 from Chorpish Junction, Route 89 at Chirim Junction, Route 89 at Gush Chalav Junction, the junction of roures 89 and 866 at Meron Junction, Route 8666 at Frud Junction and Route 854 at Rama Junction,
