Yahadut Hatorah Will Seek to Regain Control of the Finance Minister

DSC_0145_(145)Realizing the Bayit Yehudi party, which controls the Knesset Finance Committee, only has 8 seats in the 20th Knesset, one of the goals of Yahadut Hatorah is to regain control of that powerful committee, which was in the hands of Yahadut Hatorah in the 18th Knesset.

Clearly Bayit Yehudi does not wish to relinquish control, but now, with only eight seats, it is in less of a position to flex its political muscle against the chareidi party which has six seats.

The Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael of Agudas Yisrael was to convene on Wednesday afternoon 27 Adar, but that meeting was postponed due to scheduling issues among some of the admorim.

  1. Dangers of being greedy:

    1. Yisrael Beiteinu doesn’t want hareidim in the government, and along with Yesh Atid offer an alternative. In addition Likud could get fed up with its “allies” and decide that Herzog and Livni are less annoying (and less greedy).

2.What good is control of the Finance committee when the IDF is rounding up yeshiva students, arresting rabbanim as accomplices, and seizing the assets of yeshiovs to pay penalties.

  2. akuperma: Yisrael Beiteinu + Yesh Atid is the composition of the last failef government that fell early that Netanyahi doesn’t want to repeat.

Labor and Likud both don’t want a joint government and both have foresworn it after the election.

  3. #1 – the headline writer got it wrong, its the finance “committee” of the Kenesset they want, not the Finance Ministry. Yahadut ha-Torah generally wants to avoid taking the responsibility of running a ministry, though they don’t mind being on the committee that has oversight.
