Baltimore Shomrim Headquarters Destroyed In Fire

bsf

As YWN reported earlier Wednesday morning, a second alarm ripped through an apartment building on Park Heights Avenue and Fallstaff Road – in the heart of the Jewish community. The fire, which started around 7:30AM, was brought under control around 8:30. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported in the blaze.

Sadly, YWN has learned that the headquarters of Baltimore Shomrim was destroyed. The apartment at this location was used, for organizational meetings, equipment storage as well as emergency staging.

Shomrim tell YWN that as a result of the fire, and the resulting efforts to put it out, Shomrim took a serious hit.

“We are grateful that there was no loss of life, however much of the contents of the location was severely damaged by water”, Shomrim said.

“Among the jackets, flashlights and communication equipment, one piece of critical equipment was damaged. As most of the community is aware, Shomrim takes the lead on missing persons cases. To effectively and quickly be able to produce missing persons fliers Shomrim had a high end full color collating copier/printer. The loss of this equipment alone has made this fire devastating to the organization. We estimate that there was at least $20,000.00 worth of damaged items in the location.

“Until the equipment is replaced, Shomrim will be more limited in our ability to serve the community”, a Shomrim spokesperson told YWN.

To that end Shomrim is asking for your help in replacing these items to continue to properly provide safety and emergency services to the community.

  1. Oy that’s terrible! What’s interesting to me is that 3 posts before this one the post is about how they were giving out free smoke detectors. Just wondering if this is the connection .: the Midwood tragedy was supposed to happen. Afterward many people focused on the fact that there were no smoke detectors. But they missed the point. No amount of smoke detectors would have ruined Hashems plan. Maybe this is what Hashem is showing them. That when he decrees that something should be burned no amount of smoke detectors ( which I’m sure they had in this building) can stop it. Just wondering.
