Greenfield Reminds Mayor de Blasio to To Add After-School Vouchers in Tomorrow’s Budget

gfnCouncilman David G. Greenfield is reminding Mayor de Blasio of his promise to add funding for Priority 5 & 7 vouchers in tomorrow’s executive budget. Mayor de Blasio guaranteed that the after-school vouchers would be in his executive budget both before and after his election to office. However, in his preliminary budget plan, funding for Priority 5 and 7 were absent. Aides to the Mayor claimed that the omission was an error and the release of tomorrow’s executive budget would rectify the “oversight.”

“It is crucial that Mayor de Blasio uphold his public promise and restore funding for Priority 5 and 7 vouchers in this Fiscal Year’s budget. These programs are critical for working families who rely on it for day-care assistance. Last year, we in the Council worked tirelessly to ensure that 12 million dollars was secured in the New York City budget for Priority 5 after-school vouchers. This year we are simply going to hold him to the Mayor to his word. Because the Mayor forgot to put the funds in his preliminary budget, this is a friendly reminder that we expect him to keep his commitment in tomorrow’s executive budget,” said Councilman Greenfield.
