Satmar Rebbe Of Kiryas Yoel: Chareidi Parties Sold Out for Money

satThe Satmar Rebbe of Kiryas Yoel Shlita accuses the chareidi parties in the Knesset of “selling out for money”. The Rebbe came out in a harsh attack against the new coalition government in Israel which includes the chareidim.

“The Torah prohibits serving in the IDF – even those who do not study Torah. The reality is that a chareidi entering the army leaves half non-frum” the rebbe stated.

The rebbe explained that to date, the non-frum were responsible for compelling bnei Torah to serve in the army but now the chareidim will be a part of this. “Now it will be kosher and it will be prohibited to protest against it. Are the chareidim willing to sell out for money?” he added.

The rebbe rejects the explanation that this is decided by the defense minister, adding one cannot know with certainty that he will not compel the chareidim to serve.

The rebbe further stated “A Jew, for as long as he is a Jew whose fathers stood at Har Sinai is prohibited from serving in the army, and it does not matter how much money will be received for yeshivos”.

  1. “The Torah prohibits serving in the IDF – even those who do not study Torah.”
I guess he is Cholek on Rav Shach who writes explicitly that only those learning should be exempt from the IDF.

  2. “The rebbe further stated “A Jew, for as long as he is a Jew whose fathers stood at Har Sinai is prohibited from serving in the army”

why? can anyone tell me where n the torah it says this & why is it prohibited from protecting YOUR OWN BROTHERS IN OUR OWN COUNTRY OF ERETZ YISROEL?

this is just Satmar cause they are against the state of Israel

    Refuah shleima Rebba

  3. but to sell out the torah in america and steal from the govt is ok

to remove the mezuzis from the special education school to get money from the govt so as not to violate the separation of church and state is ok

and to fight with your brother
    is ok

and to curse every one who doesnt hold your shita is ok

the best thing that ever happened to the satmars is the state of israel otherwise what would the rebbe give a drasha about

  4. With all due respect, the Satmar Rebbe’s opinion is insignificant to mainstream (non satmar, chareidi, chasidish, yeshivish) Klal Yisroel. The entire Satmar approach to dealing with the State of Israel is quite radical compared to mainstream non-zionist chareidim. Therefore him stating that Chareidim in the Government “sold out” is just another example of his radical disdain to those non-zionist chareidim who wheel & deal with the State.

  5. What a hypocrite! His whole argument with his brother is over money. He’s perfectly willing to tear apart a family and cause huge machlokes among thousands of Jews, and then has the nerve to accuse others of selling out? HYPOCRITE!

  6. “Selling out for money”

    Aha.
What do you call YOUR endorsing of the pro militant homosexual community leaders like Andrew Cuomo, Bill DeBlasio, Christine Quinn, Hillary Clinton – when she ran for Senator and then President in 08′, Chuck Schumer, Nydia Velazquez, etc etc….(the list is too long!)?!

  7. What does getting money have an iota to do with serving in the IDF. As far as the agreement goes you get money for LEARNING Rabbi, not serving. Secondly, maybe if you YOILIS’ would serve in the IDF, soldiers would leave frum and there’d be less TWONIES going to Dunkin Dounuts.

  8. Is this considered Choshed Bikshayrim and Motsei Shem Rah?

Is it the same for Chareidm in US Colleges?
    Are they also “half frum”?

IS it true Yehoshua and Gideon and Shimshon and David Hamelech were great GENERALS? Were they “Half frum” or is it okay to have an army to defend ones country

  9. #1 I guess guess he is ,well not him his great uncle actually, and many other of the chassidishe gedoilim. Ever heard of chalikei deyos?

    #4 5,6 7…..
Talking about not tolerating other people’s opinions hmmmm..
He gave this speech to his kehillah isn’t he entitled to his opinion(the satmar shita which just btw he didn’t invent) or does tolerance only work the other way round?

  10. Wouldn’t it be nice if The Katan of KJ would worry about his own problems and not those in the land he loathes.

  11. Funny how selling out for money in NY is normal. Usually that is what happens when Rabbanim direct their chassidim on how to vote. Everything is motivated by selfish concerns unfortunately and being a “Rebbe” doesn’t stop that from happening sadly.

  12. I guess he must of skipped the parsha “vichi tezei lamilchama” or “remember your strength didn’t make you this soldier” it was hashem.

  13. Just yawn. Aside of the hard line Satmarers, and even in Satmar they are a minority, no one cares what Ari or Zalmi think or say.

  14. He’s just upset that non religious Jews and not satmar chassidim got his father out of Europe. It must be terrible to have that in a Satmars family history. Lol

  15. Does YWN have to report every time Satmar say anything? Some things aren’t meant to be printed in a public forum like YWN.
What goes on in Kiryas Yoel ought to stay in Kiryas Yoel.

  16. It’s seems everyone got really insulted by what the satmar rebbe said. Lets not get carried away with hatred toward all those that don’t see eye to eye with us. The satmar shitah is to be anti the medinah it’s no surprise he came out against the chareidi parties that joined the coalition. And yes R Shach was on the other side, but he still spoke to the (previous) satmar rebbe, they didn’t fight, they had differences of opinion. Additionally in R’ Shach’s time the army was different, now it is much harder to stay frum in the army (even in nachal chareidi). The law to bring the chareidim into the army is to make them not frum. They don’t want people who want neigel vaser by their bed and then will only eat this hechsher… They want the chareidim to come and they will make sure they can’t stay frum. We already see they do this by forcing the chareidi solders to participate in performances with singers. This is why there is so much talk against the chareidim going to the army, and the Rasha’im trying to force them to.

  17. Why is this newsworthy. The whole idea of the hareidi parties participating in the zionist elections is to get money, patronage, and favors. There is nothing secret about that. The is their “feature” not their “bug.” There is nothing scandalous about them doing so. It isn’t like they are claiming to being involved in Israeli politics in the hopes of convincing the zionists to do tseuvah or to convince the zionists to run their medinah based on Torah principles. Saying the someone is doing what they admit to doing is not really an accusation.

  18. #1: Rav Shach did NOT support anyone, including non-kollel, to serve in the idf.

Over 50% of daati soldiers entering the idf leave as chilonim.

  19. The tzioni Satmars have already bought land for their yishuv in Eretz Yisroel, wonder if the Rebbe will come to visit them there?

  20. Rav Schach said one has to be moser nefesh not to serve in the IDF. Nothing to do with learners, if you have a jewish nefesh it is ossur to join the Tzioni Haganah Le’Yisroel or sheirut leumi. please dont make up things that rav schach said.

  21. To mr doreish haemes and big one,
Come one already, stop with the stupidity that the IDF purposely tried to make people less observant. We both know that that accusation is baseless and ridiculous. It is probably easier now to remain frum in the army than ever. And big one, I would love to see the magical stat sheet where you brought that “fact” from about 50% of daati people becoming chilonim. That’s almost as ridiculous as the statement of the satmar “rebbe”.
