MK Shelach Concerns With ‘Deteriorating Security’

unnamed (7)MK Ofer Shelach (Yesh Atid) on Sunday following the Shar Shechem stabbing attack released messages to the media that since the 20th Knesset was sworn in, security has deteriorated significantly. Shelach released his statements following the Sunday stabbing attack at the entrance to Jerusalem’s Old City. He added “since the formation of the government, a day almost does not pass without a security incident: attacks in Yehuda and Shomron, and in Yerushalayim. Shooting of rockets from Gaza and the Golan Heights. The prime minister who is strict about regulations that each cabinet minister must attend every session hasn’t bothered to convene the Security Cabinet even once. In addition, that forum has not convened to discuss the security budget in the framework of the proposed triennial budget”.

Political analysts have been reporting Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu does not convene the Security Cabinet because Justice Minister (Bayit Yehudi) Ayelet Shaked is a member of that forum and Mr. Netanyahu’s disdain for her prevents convening that forum. It is clear that during coalition negotiations he was compelled to appoint Shaked to the Security Cabinet to bring Bayit Yehudi into the coalition.

Shelach continued “The nation’s security matters are being addressed by the man who regarded himself ‘Mr. Security’ prior to elections, and with ministers who threatened to topple the coalition if they are not appointed to the Security Cabinet, but from the moment they received the title, they do not care that the forum is not convened.”
