cohAn additional NIS 500 million has been added to the budget of the Jerusalem chareidi sport budget due to the effort of Shas Councilman Michael Malchieli, who is responsible for the sports portfolio.

The increase will permit students of talmidei torah, yeshivos and girl’s schools to have bein hazmanim activities including supervised swimming at a significantly subsidized rate. This includes swim instruction and teaching proper water safety.

The program enjoys the support of the head of Shas’ Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael, HaGaon HaRav Shalom Cohen Shlita. Rabbi Cohen is quoted applauding the program, which he feels will be a major step to avoid tragedies in the future as the tzibur learns how to swim and becomes acquainted with proper water safety.
