Maklev: Postal Authority Reform Impossible Without Teaching Customer Service First


maklevMK Uri Maklev during a session of the Knesset Economics Committee addressed sweeping reforms to improve the Israel Postal Authority. Maklev explained that it all of the changes made will not accomplish the desired goal for as long as the postal authority remains clueless to customer service.

Maklev spoke of the unacceptably long lines in post officers, the chronic lack of service, questioning what good reforms will do towards providing acceptable postal service to citizens of Israel. “We can’t cure what ails the postal service when mail is only delivered once weekly in the best of situations, and more often once every two weeks. The lack of service results in significant damage to a large tzibur as many do not receive demands for payment in a timely fashion and thereby accumulate interest or deals are missed or in some cases, mail never arrives” stated Maklev.

Maklev stresses the postal authority is about service, more than most other agencies and it was not established to just run a business. “Implementing reforms based on predicted increased profits is not enough and will not rehabilitate the ailing service” he added.

Maklev expressed cautious optimism that the postal authority’s new CEO, Danny Goldstein, will take the necessary steps towards rehabilitating the service and Maklev feels a concerted effort and manpower will be required to get the service off its feet.

  1. Good luck with that. In the past few months, the quality of the Israeli Postal Service’s mail delivery has slipped from third world to prehistoric. The majority of street-side mailboxes have been sealed; to mail a letter, one has to get to the post office where hopefully there is a mailbox outside.
